Traveling to Da Nang with Young Kids: Tips for Families
Da Nang is generally an easygoing destination for families with young kids — the beach has a gentle slope, the city isn't overwhelming, and the main sights aren't spread too far apart. Still, traveling with little ones calls for a few adjustments compared to a solo trip or a trip with friends. Here's what we'd suggest.
1. Pick a place to stay near the beach and center
With young kids, long daily commutes tend to wear everyone out faster than they're worth. Try to prioritize:
- Somewhere close to My Khe beach, so you can head out early morning or in the cooler late afternoon without a long trip, and skip the midday heat.
- A location near the center and Dragon Bridge, which makes dinner outings easier and cuts down on car time once a tired kid has had enough.
- A room with enough space to prepare a light snack or a bottle if needed, instead of having to step out every time.
2. Keep the itinerary light, not packed
A common mistake with young kids is trying to cram too many stops into one day. A few suggestions:
- Plan one main activity per day and leave the rest of the time free for rest or low-key play near where you're staying.
- Favor early morning or late afternoon activities and avoid the harshest sun, roughly 11am to 3pm.
- If you're heading out to Ba Na Hills or Son Tra Peninsula, build in extra buffer time — it's a longer trip and kids may need a break partway through.
3. Eating out with young kids
Da Nang's food scene is varied, but plenty of dishes lean spicy or heavy on fish sauce. With a young child along:
- Look for gentler options like porridge, rice dishes, simple soups, or steamed seafood rather than heavily seasoned local specialties.
- Pack a few familiar snacks in case your child isn't in the mood for local flavors.
- Choose clean, airy spots with proper seating rather than the busiest street-side stalls.

4. Getting around the city
If your family isn't renting a car, taxis or ride-hailing apps remain the safest and most convenient option with young kids, especially for longer trips or evening rides. For short distances around where you're staying, parents with slightly older kids might consider an electric scooter — it's quiet, doesn't have the gas smell of a regular bike, and tends to feel more comfortable with a child on board.
5. What to pack
- Kid-friendly sunscreen, a hat, and a sun-protective layer.
- Swim floats or a life vest if your child isn't a confident swimmer and you're planning beach time.
- Basic children's medication: fever reducer, digestive aid, cooling patches — just in case of a rough day with the weather or new food.
- A lightweight stroller if your child is still small, though many central Da Nang areas have fairly walkable sidewalks.
6. Timing your trip
If your schedule is flexible, it's worth avoiding peak summer weeks and major holiday periods — both crowded and hotter than usual. The shoulder seasons, early summer or late autumn, tend to be gentler on young kids.
