Da Nang isn't just about mi Quang or banh xeo at sit-down restaurants — this city is also a street snack paradise, especially in the late afternoon and evening when the heat eases off and the food carts start filling up. If you only have a few days here, these are the snacks worth carving out time for.

Rice paper rolls and rice paper salad

Rice paper (banh trang) is the backbone of central Vietnamese street food, and in Da Nang you'll find it in many forms: rolled with boiled pork and fresh herbs, tossed into a tangy salad with green mango, dried beef, and peanuts, or grilled crisp with quail egg and scallion oil on top. Each version tastes different, but they all share the same appeal — plenty of fresh herbs, a good balance of sour and spicy, and easy to eat as a light snack between meals.

Grilled seafood by the beach

Along the streets near My Khe beach, evenings bring out small stalls displaying fresh seafood ready to be grilled on the spot — squid, shrimp, clams, and various shellfish. You don't need a fancy restaurant for this; just grab a seat at a roadside stall, order a few grilled items with a dab of salt-and-lime chili, and you've got a proper taste of Da Nang's beach-town evenings.

Che and cold desserts

Da Nang's weather, especially in summer, runs hot, so che (sweet dessert soup) shops get busy in the late afternoon. Che here comes in many forms — bean-based, fruit-based, or colorful mixed versions — and makes a great pit stop after a walk around town or a swim at the beach.

Snails and late-night seafood bites

Beyond grilled seafood, sidewalk snail stalls are a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Snails get prepared several different ways — steamed with lemongrass, stir-fried with tamarind sauce, or roasted with salt and chili — usually eaten with bread or simply shared among friends over conversation. The late-night snail-stall scene is its own kind of Da Nang experience.

Banh xeo, nem lui, and other wraps

Da Nang-style banh xeo tends to be small and crispy, served with fresh herbs and a bold dipping sauce. Nem lui — grilled pork skewers wrapped in rice paper with herbs and dipped in a rich peanut-based sauce — is another dish you'll find easily around the city center or near the beach. Both are great for sharing with a group while you chat over the meal.

A few tips for snacking around Da Nang

  • Look for stalls that are busy with locals and turn over ingredients quickly — that usually means fresher food.
  • If you have a sensitive stomach, start with small portions, especially with seafood or raw-style dishes.
  • Weekend evenings tend to get crowded at popular snack spots, so arrive a bit early if you want a comfortable seat.
  • Getting around by scooter is much more practical than walking, since the best snack stalls are usually spread out rather than clustered in one spot.
