If we had to pick one free activity in Da Nang that leaves the biggest impression, it would be an evening walk along Bach Dang street beside the Han River. No planning required, no ticket needed — just comfortable shoes and a free evening.

Why Bach Dang is best at night

During the day, Bach Dang street looks like any other riverside road. But once the sun goes down, the whole area transforms: buildings and bridges along the Han River light up, the water reflects the glow, and the air cools down noticeably compared to daytime. It's also when locals come out to walk, exercise, and catch the breeze, giving the street a rhythm that's both lively and relaxed.

Watching Dragon Bridge change colors

The highlight of any evening walk here is Dragon Bridge. On certain weekend evenings, the bridge puts on a fire- and water-spouting display that draws crowds along both riverbanks. Even outside of show times, the bridge lit up at night is still a striking sight worth stopping for a few photos.

Check out the other bridges along the Han River

Besides Dragon Bridge, the Han River has a few other bridges, each with its own architecture and lighting. If you have time, walking a bit further to take in the different bridges at night is worthwhile — each one lit up differently, together forming a scene that feels distinctly Da Nang.

Stop for a snack or coffee by the river

Bach Dang street has plenty of small cafes and drink stalls facing the river, perfect for a rest after a long stretch of walking. If you want something different, the side alleys nearby are also worth a detour for local snacks or drinks.

A few tips for a more comfortable walk

  • Wear comfortable sneakers or sandals — the riverside stretch is fairly long if you walk it end to end.
  • Weekend evenings get crowded, so weeknights are a better bet if you prefer a quieter atmosphere.
  • Bring a light jacket if you're visiting during a season with a cooler river breeze, especially toward the end of the year.
  • If you'd rather cover more ground along both riverbanks instead of just walking one stretch, a scooter lets you explore several spots in the same evening.
