Summer, the April 30th–May 1st holiday, and the long breaks at year's end are always Da Nang's busiest travel windows, and they're also when booking a homestay can get stressful if you leave it too late. After hosting through many peak seasons, here's what we'd want you to know ahead of time.

Book early to keep your options open

During peak season, well-located homestays at reasonable prices tend to fill up a month or more in advance, even earlier for major holidays. If you wait until close to your travel date, you'll likely run into:

  • Only far-out or overpriced rooms left, since demand has already pushed prices up.
  • Less time to compare options or ask questions before booking, which makes it easier to end up somewhere that doesn't actually suit you.

A reasonable rule of thumb is booking three to four weeks ahead for a regular summer trip, and one to two months ahead for major holidays like April 30th or Tet.

Understand pricing and deposit policies during peak times

Many homestays shift their policies during peak season:

  • Room rates can jump 30-50%, sometimes more on the actual holiday dates.
  • Some places require a deposit upfront, or full payment at booking, instead of paying on arrival like they would on regular days.
  • Cancellation and date-change policies can also get stricter — read them carefully before confirming.

Don't hesitate to message the host directly and ask about these details before transferring any money, rather than relying only on general info on a booking platform.

Confirm details again close to your travel date

More guests during peak season means a higher chance of mix-ups in booking management. A few days before you arrive, it's worth:

  • Messaging to reconfirm your check-in date, number of guests, and room type.
  • Asking about the earliest possible check-in and latest possible check-out, especially if your flight lands at an inconvenient hour.
  • Saving the host's phone number or Zalo so you can reach them quickly if anything changes last minute.

Think a bit harder about location during busy periods

On a regular day, a homestay slightly further from the center can still be perfectly fine since roads are quiet and easy to navigate. But during peak season, the downtown and beachfront areas get noticeably more crowded, with local traffic jams in the evenings. Choosing a homestay in an area like An Hai — close to My Khe beach and Dragon Bridge, but still a quiet residential neighborhood — helps you avoid some of that crowding while staying convenient to the main attractions.

Have a backup transport plan ready

Peak season is also when ride-hailing apps get harder to book and surge pricing kicks in during busy hours. This is exactly when a homestay's scooter rental service earns its keep — you control your own schedule instead of waiting around or paying inflated evening fares.

A few warning signs to watch for

  • A homestay asking for full payment to a personal bank account, with no clear booking confirmation via message or a booking platform.
  • A price that's unusually low compared to similar listings for the same dates — worth double-checking or verifying through a trusted booking channel before paying.
  • No direct phone number or Zalo contact, with communication limited to anonymous messages only.

A note from Lapin Homestay

During peak season, Lapin Homestay at 73 Duong Tri Trach in An Hai also tends to book up early, so if you already have your dates set, feel free to message us on Zalo or call ahead to hold a room and confirm pricing for your specific travel dates. We're just a few minutes from My Khe beach and Dragon Bridge, and we offer electric scooter rental, which comes in especially handy during busy periods when ride-hailing apps get harder to rely on.

Hope you land a great room and have a wonderful trip to Da Nang, even during the busiest time of year!
